Sooo….sorry for the long break!

I know, I suck at updating this regularly but I took a break from the computer a bit and now summer class has started and I’m working again so I don’t have much time and I don’t have a lot of interesting stuff going on in my life these days. I did a bunch of great stuff with my friends though and I’m really happy about that because I didn’t get to see them much during the semester. Oh! and I got to see U23D which was awesome!! I’ll probably go see it another time, though I don’t know when yet. My summer class is soooo boring…the only good thing about it is that it’s only twice a week so I can work a bit. I’ve been working a lot lately, almost everyday, and even after classes…it’s like doing 2 days in 1. And now, we’ve learned that our office is closing September 1st…my boss said she’d ask that I get transfered to the Montreal’s offices but nothing’s sure yet…I should know next Tuesday…but I’m still good to go for the summer so that’s mainly what I care about. Anyways…I bought Mario Kart and Wii Fit for the Wii….really neat games!! I’m only missing RockBand now…lol Wow this post really made no sense at all.. Oh well that’s what happens when I don’t update for like 2 months…Hope I’ll update sooner next time!

So the end is near…

Yup, the end of the semester is already here! A week and a half left and still 5 assignments to do! I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to get through this! Especially when I think of something and then forget it 2 seconds later. How the hell am I supposed to write 5 papers if I keep forgetting what I want to write?? And I feel sooo depressed these days… and tired all the time. I just feel like my brain isn’t working anymore. To add to that, they’re messing with the stupid program…I may get stuck to do 2 more classes…which would horribly suck and blow at the same time. Sooo not going to let this happen! Schtupid McGill… And I miss my boyfriend… I need a hug!!

ok. enough with the bitching and whining… *don’t worry, be happy* but man, does it feel good to bitch and whine sometimes! I should be good for the next week and a half!  Oh, and I’m still happy because I received a surprise from the other side of the ocean…A bit of sunshine on a rainy day!

So Mac Users Are Snobs

This is the message that a video made by TheStreet.com is sending out to all the computer users. Mindset Media, a company that develops consumer profiles,  interviewed 7,500 PC and Mac users to find out what were their habits and personality. TheStreet.com took the results of the survey, but included only a couple of statistics, to show that Mac users are snobs, just like the guy in the Mac ads. According to the video, Mac users are self-centered, arrogant, conceited, self-important, more intellectually curious, perfectionist and socially and politically liberal. They have a strong need for recognition and an open personality. They are also more likely to use teeth-whitening products, use laptops and notebooks, buy organic food and drive a hybrid car (though the video also says that Mac users drive station wagons). Mac users also frequent Starbucks, download more music than PC users but they are also more likely to pay for it, are worried about the environment and have bought at least five new pairs of sneakers in the past year. Finally, still according to the video, Mac users think that they are superior and extraordinary. 

 

Now, I would really like to know how Mindset Media came up with those results. How did they choose the respondents? Being a Mac user myself, I do not feel that I fit into this description. The same thing goes for most of my friends who own a Mac. I would say that about 25% of those things fit my personality: I am a perfectionist, I do use a laptop, I am intellectually curious and I do think that I have an open personality. However, I do no think that any of this has anything to do with owning a Mac, and personally I do not see what is wrong with being intellectually curious or having an open personality. I would even say that some of the things mentioned are great; driving a hybrid car or paying for the music you download are certainly not behaviors that we would want to stop. Besides, how does using teeth-whitening make you snob? Do not get me wrong, I am not saying that all Mac users are not snobs, because I know that some of them are but it is not because they own a certain brand of computer.

 

In most of the forums where members were discussing the video, the ones agreeing with it had the following argument: the Mac guy in the ads is really a snob and thinks that he is better than the PC guy, therefore Mac users are like that too. Yes, the Mac guy thinks he is better. That is because he is impersonating a Mac, which should give you the message that the computer is superior, not the user. To that, some answer that the only argument Mac users have to support that their computer is better is repeating Apple’s slogan “It Just Works!”. Anti-Mac people will then ask why websites such as iFixit.com exist if “it just works”? Well, the answer is simple: because it’s technology and it’s not perfect! So yes, Macs can break too. But a lot less often than PCs! After all, the survey said that Mac users were more satisfied with their purchase than PC users. We are not snobs, we are just happy to have a computer that is working and we tend to say it whenever we hear someone complain about their PC. It is not our fault, it just works!
